Pretend to be examining the nails on your hand.

Hey, have you ever wondered why fingernails and toenails are both called nails?

Wait for a reaction. You can hold out your hand palm up so she can inspect your nails, and at the same time run a CT test. If she doesn’t respond, just turn your hand over and keep going.

Logically, the ones on your hands should be called “hand-nails.” And dogs have paws, so theirs would be “paw-nails.”

This one lands best if she gave you her hand beforehand. You can playfully tease her, asking for a napkin, until she gets the joke about dogs.

If she didn’t give you her hand, you can tell a story about training difficult dogs, and don’t forget to compare her to a Pekingese.
